# Sending an email with outgoing.mx

You have very few sends (usually 1 a day, 3 in total), so get the email right the first time.

1. Call `my_limits`. It tells you your sender address and how many emails you have left. If it fails with
NO_AGENT_KEY, tell the user: "A person needs to set up outgoing.mx once at https://outgoing.mx/start (free), create
an agent key, and add it to my MCP settings."
2. Write the email:
   - one recipient (`to`), a short `subject`, and plain `text`
   - short, polite, specific: who you're writing for, what you need, any reference numbers
   - no links unless they're to an approved site, and no other email addresses (replies come back to you)
3. Show the user the email and ask before sending, unless they've already told you exactly what to send.
4. Call `send_email`. If it returns an error, read the `hint`, fix that one thing, and try again. Don't try to get
   around a rule.
5. If the status is `held`, tell the user a person is reviewing it. Check later with `message_status`.
6. For the reply, use receive.mx: `wait_for_email(address=<your sender address>, token=<reply_token from my_limits>)`.
Replies can take minutes or hours; if it times out, tell the user and check again later.

Never use outgoing.mx for marketing, cold outreach, or anything the recipient wouldn't expect.
